Elixir
|
For 25 years Elixir has ensured efficient interbank payments settlement in Poland. Except for exchange of clearing messages the system created by KIR allows the electronic transfer of information between its participants. |
Exchange of messages in the Elixir system is possible 24 hours a day. Transactions may be directed to the system by the banks 24/7/365 and they are settled within one of three Elixir sessions held on any business day.
KIR guarantees high security of the Elixir system. All information processed in the system, including clearing messages, bear the Szafir digital signature. In ensures the integrity of the data sent. The system complies with the European standards regarding the handling of interbank payments ensuring payment completion within the current day.
The Elixir system employs the mechanism of multilateral netting, i.e. compensation of transfers effected between the banks. Owing to this solution, the level of funds necessary for payment settlement may be decreased even by 70%, which significantly facilitates liquidity management. It also allows to reduce the transaction costs.
To streamline the procedure of order processing KIR offers its participants a free Elixir-ok application which verifies the correctness of the messages and prepares them for sending to the central application of the system.
Elixir is continuously and regularly developed and adjusted to the banks' needs as well as the evolving payments market.
Apart from the Elixir system applied for clearing PLN payments, KIR also provides the banks with access to Euro Elixir which processes pan-European transactions in Euro and the Express Elixir system that allows to make instant interbank PLN transfers 24/7/365.
Why use Elixir?
- clearing guarantee – the Elixir system is a standard for interbank clearings in Poland and allows to make payments between all banks,
- trust – owing to the fact that the Elixir system was developed in co-operation with the banks, it forms an integral part of the financial sector infrastructure in Poland,
- long-standing reliability – for 20 years the system has reliably processed all payments directed for clearing,
- operational flexibility – it allows the flexible creation of clearing schemes, that is why it may be regularly adjusted to the banks' needs, including diversified types of payments (e.g. transfer order, tax payments, direct debit),
- optimization of costs – the applied netting model allows to reduce the liquidity necessary to the banks for the purpose of clearing the clients' payments to the level of 70%, which significantly reduces the costs and expands options of liquidity management,
- compliance with the European standards – the Elixir system complies with the European standards, thus, each bank participating in the system has a guarantee that it operates according to the European requirements, in particular those regarding the speed of transfer handling.
Each business day three clearing sessions are held in the Elixir system: (1) morning, (2) afternoon and (3) evening, closed with a settlement in the SORBNET2 system.
